About Face Boot Camp at Vero's Costa d'Este to be in Fitness Magazine
VERO BEACH — the About Face Boot Camp that Steve and Bonnie Pfiester operate at the Costa d’Este resort in Vero Beach will be featured in the April issue of Fitness Magazine.
Magazine writer Chee Gates spent three November days at the boot camp to write the story. she said she picked About Face for two reasons: she knows the Pfiesters and the camp is unusual in that it emphasizes a shift in thinking — and provides information about diet and meal planning to help that shift along.
“We can make a difference in somebody’s life if we teach them for three days,” Bonnie Pfiester said. “It seems to be a perfect kick-start when people know they need to do something but they don’t know what to do.”
Prices for the complete weekend begin at $499, Pfiester said, and participants leave About Face with enough knowledge to handle their own fitness program once they get home. she said it’s not unusual for participants to lose 20 or 30 pounds in the first two or three months after the camp.
The only extreme element to the weekend program is the first workout on the beach Saturday morning. the Pfiesters refer to the session as “shock and awe.”
Participants eat low-calorie meals — the usual dieting load of 1,200 to 1,500 calories a day — at the resort, and stay together the full three days. the Pfiesters stay right with them.
Someone ordered a Cuban sandwich late one night and the chef called Pfiester. “They were so busted,” she said.
About Face started in September after Steve Pfiester appeared on the reality weight-loss television show “Fat March” on ABC. Pfiester said her husband began getting e-mails from people who had seen the show and were begging to be participants.
Pfiester said that’s when she and her husband realized people are “willing to give up everything to get this done.”
The Pfiesters own Longevity Fitness Club and Spa at 650 12th St., which serves women, and Longevity Max Fitness at 970 14th Lane, which serves men and women. both are in Vero Beach and both offer four-week boot camps that teach the same principals as About Face. for information, contact either of the clubs.
